Love, Emotion, Desire

in #cn7 years ago (edited)

English version

I intended to make the post a bilingual version, and found out that it's hard to tell deliberate differences without referring to Chinese origins.
For the three Chinese symbols: 爱 (Love), 情 (Emotion) and Desire (欲), either of them stands as a single word, and two of them combined lead to related but different words: 爱情 (romance), 情欲 (lust/erogeneity). Please correct me if you have better translations for these Chinese words.
Love is more generic, could be fondness of anything/anyone, nature, kids, or one's hometown.
Emotion, as it stands for, reflects our emotional status: joy, angry, sad, happy, and hate etc.
Coming to desire, it often accompanies us throughout, making us as human being.

Confucius once described a few desires one should guard against, regarding one's age and vital energy (气血, sounds like energy bar in game):
when one is young and his vital energy is not fully settled, he might be susceptible to the desire of sex; getting into middle age with loaded energy, he could be easily irritated to fight, probably due to desires of power and authorities; once becoming older with weak energy, man could be prone to the desires of wealth.

The two Chinese words "Emotion" (情) and "Desire" (欲) will together form a word of "lust/erogeneity" (情欲), making people think of a typical confirmation question that you are at least 18 year old, before entering some sensitive website...
The Chinese "Love" (爱) plus "Emotion" (情) is a special form of love: "Romance" (爱情), the intimate attractions between man and woman.

According to modern science, the so-called "vital energy & blood" in Chinese medicine probably correspond to sex hormones (estrogen and androgen) consisting of chemical molecules.

If without these hormones, whether these love romances would ever exist?
The arrows of Cupid should have been treated with plenty of such hormones. Whoever shot by his arrows, will fall into uncontrollable loves with any first met stranger.
This will perfectly explain quite a few classical Chinese love romances. Gosh, I won't risk my shabby English to repeat the full stories, just feel how lucky we are to have almighty wiki:
- The Weaver Girl and the Cowherd "织女和牛郎" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Weaver_Girl_and_the_Cowherd) : the traditional Chinese valentine's day was basically made from the yearly reunion of this couple.
- A beautiful white-snake spirit and a young man "白蛇和许仙" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_of_the_White_Snake).
- The seventh daughter of Jade Emperor and a mortal "七仙女和董永" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tian_Xian_Pei): a note, the guy stole her special feather coat, while she was taking a bath; yup, and he was peeping her in the bath as well.

I was once chatting with my co-workers about TV series and movies, the more unrealistic/insane they are, the more cheerfully we watching. It's probably because they are far away from the actual daily life, although claimed to be originated from real life. These beautiful actors and actresses could together produce numerous versions of love stories with a few common stereotypes (you name them since difficult for me to translate :P ).
Nevertheless, we never get bored of watching the shows, as the attractive love romance is forever in it.

Maybe, the love romance is just a trap setup by God, a sweet trap though.
Once trapped, you'll reproduce with remaining active hormones (or "vital energy"), then you've done. You'll spend the rest of the life to raise kids and pay endless utilities/bills.
During leisure time, you may continue watching some of the enjoyable love romances, smiling or chuckling.
