What's up !

I had to re-record this video ,because I realized while exporting it that I was naming the Lydian in the wrong way, I was naming it Locrian scale during the whole video so it was clearly a big mistake!

Anyway here is my 5th attempt on trying to teach you how to sing, I hope you will learn something by the end of this video.

Here a little introduction on The Lydian scale which is my favorite scale by far, I can't really explain why, it just a sweet scale , full of possibilities.

The Lydian scale is a seven-tone musical scale formed from a rising pattern of pitches comprising three whole tones, a semitone, two more whole tones, and a final semitone.

If you don't understand , don't worry I've just copied and pasted wikipedia, I wouldn't have been able to explain it myself.
However what I can teach you , is how "It sounds like".

You see, the Lydian scale is pretty much like the major scale, except your raise the 4th. That is THAT Simple!

If you know that, now just get accustomed with the way it sounds.Remember it's ok to look ridiculous while doing these exercises as no one is watching.
Don' try to attempt it at work for example, or you will become the new meme at the office :P

I take few minutes as well to show you a warming up exercise that I do when my voice is in the lower medium like this morning. It's a simple warm up technique, that anyone can practice easily and that works on any scale.

We will then see what is an arpeggio, and why you can play a major 7 arpeggio on the Lydian Scale!

What's an arpeggio? Very good question! I can't think of anyone better than daddy Wiki to explain to us:

An arpeggio (Italian: [arˈpeddʒo]) is a type of broken chord, in which the notes that compose a chord are played or sung in a rising or descending order. An arpeggio may also span more than one octave. The word arpeggio comes from the Italian word arpeggiare, which means to play on a harp.

I don't know about you guys, but for me it's still a bit messy , so let me give you another example. You hear arpeggio everywhere around you, it's pretty much a succession of note on the same scale forming a chord.
Classical music i reknown to use arpeggio but you can find it in modern music like the song "She Will" by Lil Wayne.

Here is Bobby Mcferrin that will show you the power of a good arpeggio:

As you can see the possibilities are infinite once you realized that everything is connected on a grander scale.(pun intended)

I know that for some people. these terms can be overwhelming, and more confusing than anything. It is why I stopped learning about music theory when I was a kid, because I couldn't really comprehend all the technical jargon and I eventually got demotivated.
Remember that "music is how sound feels like", I am quoting @prc on this one, but he is right. When doing something so visceral like music , you really need to stay in tune with what you feel like, when a note is being played, and it will help you during the learning process.

I actually visualize a color for each scale. Lydian scale being blue, I am not entirely sure why, but if it helps me remembering it, why not using it ?

Thanks again for reading this, and have a delightful morning/day/evening wherever you are
One love
