This is a cover of the song "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", the version by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, one of the greatest hawaian musician that ever lived. The 26th of June will mark the 21st Anniversary of his passing on.

Recording history (Wiki)
The song was originally recorded in a spur-of-the-moment demo session in 1988, and was done in a single take. At the time, copies of the recording were only made for Kamakawiwoʻole himself and recording engineer Milan Bertosa. Five years later, in 1993, Bertosa played the song for producer Jon de Mello while the two were completing work on Facing Future, and de Mello decided to include it in the album as "Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World"

Biography of Israel Kamakawiwoʻole

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
And the dreams that you dream of, once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly
And the dreams that you dream of, dreams really do come true
Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me.
Where trouble melts like lemon drops,
High above the chimney top,
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly
And the dream that you dare to
Why, oh why can't I?
I see trees of green, red roses too
I watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Well I see skies of blue, and I see clouds of white
The brightness of day, I like the dark
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' 'How do you do?'
They're really say I, I love you

I hear babies cryin', and I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than we'll know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me.
Where trouble melts like lemon drops,
High above the chimney top,
That's where you'll find me.
Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
And the dream that you dare to
Why, oh why can't I?

You've done it again @edprivat! Such a beautiful song and you did it complete justice. This song holds a special place in my heart; not sure if you knew, but I was a high school teacher for years at a Fine Arts School...so much talent there. Anyway, one of our students died in a freak car accident, and any death is a shame, but this one was particularly painful. He was a friend of my sons and the kind of kid that you just know is going places. Here is a tribute that his friends did for him, singing this exact song! So much love in the lyrics and melody!! I just wanted to share it with you :)

That was so touching ! I got shivers !
That's amazing that you were a Fine Arts teacher , I studied fine art in high school too !

Beautiful tribute! I am sure Bryn was watching from above!

Thank you so much @edprivat ! I just knew that it was something you'd appreciate! I agree, I think Bryn was watching too :)

Yes, I was fortunate to work at that school for the last 10+ years of my teaching career and am still in touch with so many of those kids...now adults. Creativity and the arts really makes the world go round! ❤️

"I just knew that it was something you'd appreciate! I agree, I think Bryn was watching too :)" It was reall lovely to watch and I was really not trying to be nice, there were some beautiful harmonies, and you can see that they rehearsed it many times to get it right!

"Creativity and the arts really makes the world go round!" And keeps us going too when the world seems to have stopped turning

So true! Sometimes when everything seems so ugly, I turn to the beauty of anything creative; changes your perspective very quickly.

I think art therapy can become for effective than pills for people having psychological or mental issues

I just saw this comment, but yes, I agree. Our school once had a student pass away (a different student than Bryn) unexpectedly and every department got together to figure out a way to honor him. The Art Dept put on a huge exhibit in his honor, as did the Dance, Drama and Music. We English teachers had kids write and put on a display....it was a full school endeavor and helped the rest of the kids "process" the whole mess. It was helpful to pull some beauty out of something so tragic.

Really beautiful, it's a great tribute that you make, you really honor his memory, It's amazing.

Thanks @fabian98 for the kind compliment!

Oh man your cover is just awesome and would be such a great addition to the Project Ulog if you would permit it.

With pleasure ! What should I do ?
