Art with strangers at the park
I met Ranjit and Shar at the park today. They were strangers but I showed interest in their art and they were kind enough to le me sit at their table. They were delighted when I began unpacking supplies of my own which were a set of acrylic inks, the brushes and the paper. We quickly went deep in conversation me and Ranjit, talking about the meaning of life no less. However, most of the time we were silent and very focused on our art which is just the way we like it. By the end of the 3 hours we spent together, Shar had really opened up and joined the conversation.
This is Shar’s piece, as an animator she mentioned that it is difficult to find time to just enjoy art. She wanted to capture a special moment having breakfast on her balcony. She likes to make art in a single sitting.
This is Ranjit’s piece, it is marvelous! Like his wife he is an animator and he is taking a watercolor class organized by his employers. He is very patient and has a lot of skill to layer his portrait in such a way. I was amazed to see him work on what looked like dollar store paints. At one point I advised him to step back, it felt like he was getting too close to his work. We all gave each other tips which was amazing.
I brought a Chinese painting book to practice my bamboos. I recently made a digital study but this was my first time using this book with real life materials.
Shar was cheering me on the whole way making this but after adding some detail, she thought it was too dark so she lent me some colors to add life to this portrait of an imaginary character.
Thank you Shar!

An update from Shar!

I am sure that was a very fulfilling activity, having an "art jam" with total strangers =)
Yes, and later that night, I headed over to the comic jam where we continue each other’s comic from a pile once a month. Of course you can also start a page!
