"Working with a market leader is always interesting", was my thought when joining one of this company small affiliates; Flexibility in products, solutions and service models of a small company and the brand, resources and professionalism of a corporate has the right ingredients for success in the large enterprise market segment.

What was I thinking?

Turns out our mother company has the strong urge to push their own internal problems, their inflexible way of working and their inability to create a well integrated company - taking best of both worlds - onto our customers. The culture is more like: "Let's make it ourselves as simple as possible internally, even when the solution offering from technology to services and commercials is hugely complex and not integrated; The customers simply have to deal with it!" The spirit to create offerings that makes sense to our market seems to be buried deep down under somewhere.

How is it possible this market leader is walking the path to loose its all?

Too many times a no-bid is forced by key decision makers because some small thing is not in place. That in itself is fine, but when it happens almost weekly for deal value sizes of 10s to 100+ million Euro - while the market is the Netherlands only - is beyond me!

A few weeks ago - for a key customer - I designed a attractive priced solution including a flexible operating model this customer requires to want to stick with us. Since then - almost daily - I'm forced to replace solution elements with sub-optimal equivalents. While the deadline is approaching, the offering became far from optimal.

Darn. This will likely result in a "We'll sign a contract with some other party, thank you for your services, please prepare the exit!"

Colleagues wondering why I behaved quite emotional today.

Really? Am I the only one having the best interest at heart, for both my own employer and our customer? Why spending nearly 50k Euro of pre sales work knowing the result will not be liked at all by our customer?

I really need a break!

diskonnected: a Taipei based DJ and resident at Smoke Machine events in Taiwan; A discovery I made last weekend. So far am very pleased with what I'm hearing. Didn't explore most of his work, but last few days listened the recording below at least a handful times. Also today again, in the car driving home, and continuing while I'm sitting at my home office desk writing this post for you while trying to get rid of my frustrations with the culture at my workplace.
