Busy
I feel like I should write something.
Should I write something?
I'll write something.
Been working really hard on this game. Almost have the UX flow the way I imagined it. It's going to look like trash, but that's kind of the entire point. I see myself as more of a backend developer, so the goal is to decentralize development and ownership of multiple frontends.
Personally, I think the game should go viral within the Steem community. I've seen what people are doing here, and there is zero competition. When a game comes out for Steem, we have a built in audience of at least 1000 people willing to try it. That's pretty cool.
Hopefully I can make some money off of this project to justify more hours being pumped into developing Steem dapps. We'll see. I have an idea for decentralized escrow. I'm thinking about charging 1% for that service. However, if it's decentralized then anyone can undercut me. Also, once I program smart contracts the need for an escrow middle man is completely marginalized.
The only other way to make money will be to sell skins. Seeing as I don't really want to design skins (because that's basically frontend work) maybe I'll be able to place bounties on skins I want made. I can pay other people to make the skins/animations I want and then sell the finished product once all the bounties have been completed.
Bounties
I think bounties are the key to decentralized development. You need something done but you don't have time to do it yourself. Therefore, you describe the specifications and put a bounty on it. Whoever completes the work gets the bounty. The logistics involved are obviously easier said than done, but the merit is there regardless.
Bounties on Steem will have a huge edge. I could post a bounty for something and anyone on the platform would be able to upvote/tip to have that feature completed. It doesn't just have to be the person that posts the bounty that pays for it. This is the magic of our 'proof-of-brain' business model. Distribution logistics are much more streamlined than on other chains. Or should I say 'Steemlined'? No, I won't.
The interesting thing about my code is that it is fully distributed. All open source code is when you think about it. Anyone can download it.
The problem is that it gets bottled-necked when it comes to actually downloading and broadcasting information to the blockchain. I'm sure we'll come up with a solution when this is actually a problem...
Another interesting thing is that it's going to piggyback off of Steem full nodes, so if the game becomes popular enough all the full nodes are going to get melted by the game and the Steem blockchain will be filled to the brim with custom JSONs. This has a lot of interesting side affects that I've talked about before.
Essentially if the network becomes overloaded with custom JSONs then RC costs will go up and the value of Steem coins will skyrocket because there is greatly increased demand for Steem bandwidth. Everyone talks about how scalable Steem is, but that's just relative to other blockchains. At it's core, blockchain will always be a very inefficient yet trustworthy database. I plan to highlight this fact with this game I'm creating.
Well, time to get back to it. I agreed to go to a BBQ today and I'm regretting that commitment. Would have been nice to spend the whole day doing this:

I see you like The BigBang Theory.
It is that Cooper is too creative.
Looking forward to check out the game you're building :-) Always enjoyed your posts picking on DrugWars :D
A game ? wow, very cool can't wait to see how this turns out.
Planning to nuke Steem?!!
This game will be the Crytopkitties of Steem, yes.
To be fair, this is a good thing. We should be pushing the boundaries of our scaling limitations.
Hmm, waiting for the acid test for this chain. (Perhaps it may compel to re-think on the max json limit in next HF 😉)
Woohoo! Glad to see you following through on this. Can’t wait to see the result of all those hours... if RCs (and eventually, STEEM) get more expensive, then that’s the cherry on top. Stepping away is good for the mind and for creativity, enjoy the BBQ 🔥
Full on anticipation mode! Are we there yet?
Keep it going as the appetite for more things to do continues to expand! Look forward to checking it out!

looking forward to it!
Lol, I think you should let loose! Tell us what you really think
#utopian-io has been a gift. We would like to keep its curation-efforts alive here on 'marlians.com'. We want to curate and reward 'contributions to open-source projects' with MARLIANS on the the marlians.com tribe, a SCOT-enabled steem condenser. Contributions can include suggestions, graphics, bug-finds, code etc. You can simply add in #marlians to your #utopian-io posts and it will appear on https://www.marlians.com/created/utopian enabling you to earn some MARLIANS along with steem/sbd. You can also post directly to steem via 'marlians.com'. We have some overseers who curate and who can render you help too. You can find them enlisted on https://www.marlians.com/created/utopian
