Have you ever been different? Have you ever known you were right but had to go against the grain, against society? Maybe we are contrarian by nature, but more than that we are living in a time where complex, decentralized systems take back the world from simplified, centralized ones.

What's more - complex systems are full of different elements, some competing and some cooperating. We are not all going to agree. We are not all supposed to agree. There was a time when discussion was a prized, exciting activity. Why does the way many people do it nowadays make me nauseous?

There could be interesting discussions about landscaping and lawn maintenance - but if one more person calls my dutch iris 'weeds', I think I will rebel.
