For a minute I was trying to throw together an example that could tie this PV to "strewn together" , because I was pretty sure that was a variation or colloquialism I've heard before... But no, I think it was either a case of casual misuse or just my memory playing tricks.
After all, thrown and strewn (scattered) are related by meaning and... could sound similar in a mock Scottish accent? (Just play around with in your head: "threw" - "strewn". It'll make sense, I promise hope.)
