The Seven Day Beer Challenge #1 "Divo Pivo"

in #sevendaybeerchallenge6 years ago (edited)

Finally got a chance to make a post about the greatest challenge there is ! If you still haven't heard about it, hopefully after this post you will correct your mistake and join us !

I got invited by its 'mastermind' @trumpman, and it follows these rules:

  • You have to try a new beer every day, for 7 days
  • The beer must be something you have never tasted before
  • You must put a photo of the beer and write a few words about it
  • Nominate someone every day
  • If you are a social outcast with no friends to invite you just join the fun. You have every excuse to drink!
  • Use the tag "#sevendaybeerchallenge" as one of your five tags.

So here's my day one of this amazing challenge.

Why I am excited about this challenge.

I usually avoid drinking any alcohol. I am far from 'sober person', but I just don't like the taste of almost any kind of alcohol that I've tried. So usually I compensate with a lot of beer.

As much as I love to drink beer, I am really picky about it and once I try a beer I like, I usually would not buy any other kind. But since the second rule of this challenge is to try something new, I will not cheat and see how it goes.

To be honest, at first I wanted to 'taste and tell' a foreign beer, perhaps a classic one, or at least a kind you could all buy and taste. But as I went through #sevendaybeerchallenge I saw many interesting kinds of beer, some of which I couldn't even imagine exist.

That's why I decided to explore some Bulgarian beers and to introduce you and myself to them.

So without further ado the first beer I tried for this challenge is called "Диво Пиво" ( "Divo Pivo"). In translation it means something like 'wild ale' and as you can see it has a wild bear illustrated on it's bottle. The illustration is actually of a wild bear brewing beer in the forest. Only in Bulgaria, ladies and gents :)

So a quick search for this beer shows that "Divo Pivo" is the first bottled Bulgarian craft beer. It is a 4.5 % unfiltered blond ale with bitter taste in the end. It contains German malt Wayerman and two different kinds of hop grown in Bulgaria and Belgian yeast. It is manufactured in the first Bulgarian microbrewery "Pivovarna 359". Up until today I haven't heard about these guys but since today I am their admirer.

For a Bulgarian beer I guess "Divo Pivo" should be considered expensive. It's price on the market is around 1.50 Euro. For comparison an average 0.5 l bottle of beer costs around 0.60 Euro.

Honestly I am a huge fan of craft beer so I enjoyed "Divo Pivo" a lot. For sure I could say that it's not overpriced and I would definitely buy another.

So as the fourth rule says, I have to nominate someone. I choose @xtrex and @j3dy. Hopefully they would accept the challenge and surprise us with more amazing beers! Cheers!
