The Tank Man

The man nicknamed the Tank Man was a protester in Tiananmen Square on June 5, 1989. The man who until now is unnamed is fearlessly letting off some tanks by standing in front of him.

The tank intends to attack pro-democracy demonstrators. The man stands proudly and even climbs one of the tanks to stop his movement.

The man was unarmed, he was just an ordinary man who was out shopping. However, heroic action was memorable. The photograph itself was immortalized by Jeff Widener, the photographer assigned to the Associated Press.
