I used to say, "don't attribute to malice what can be attributed to incompetence." I think the problem is now the incompetent see how easy it is to make money by acting maliciously that I can't tell what is going on.
That is probably one part of the problem, the other one is people worldwide who are obedient to authority, who simply believe everything politicians and the media say and, as herd animals, are too afraid to swim against the tide.
