A Case Against Mass Immigration

in #life5 years ago

I came across this simulator of altruism. I suggest that it also might be a model which could be applied to social dynamics with regard to mass immigration and "White" Nationalism. A lot of criticism has been levied against the "White Patriarchy" especially as applied to issues of slavery and colonialism. Essentially a few hundred years ago, societal success pivoted to the European and British nations. While an argument might be to go back to the Spanish Invasion of the Americas, I don't believe true progress was determined at this point. In my opinion the event which propelled Europe to the forefront of civilizations was the Reformation. In a way Protestantism was a religion written by lawyers (see John Calvin). It democratized religion. Most religions evolve to praise their particular gods and prophets through the intercession of a class of priests - a theocracy. Many religions evolve a form of sacerdotalism requiring the intervention of a priest, imam or witch doctor who are considered to having a supernatural power as a consequence. Lutheranism as an example (which predominated in Northern Europe), believed that all baptized Christians were "priests" in the site of God. Previously the Roman Catholic church practiced a system of indulgences where a person could "bribe" a church official to get forgiveness for sin. Even today the concept of confession is flawed in the idea that a priest can give a person absolution for sins. Since absolution through indulgences was taken off the board, it fell back on the individual to live as good a life as possible.

On Colonialism

Europe receives a lot of criticism for colonialism. While it is true that in most cases there is an economic reason that white colonists went to foreign lands, there is also an element of attempting to spread a better society to these lands. We look back with the benefit 20-20 hindsight and see that not all of these changes were good. For each person with very muddy ethics there are individuals who exemplified the best principles. When people are being critical of the European presence in undeveloped countries, they forget about Albert Schweitzer, Albert Ruskin Cook and Norman Bethune. These were not saints but were men ahead of their time.

On Slavery

To be white is to associated with slavery. The irony is that protestantism is largely responsible for the elimination of slavery. Slaves have been associated with civilized societies for thousands of years. While I am pretty sure the Sān of Africa or the Aboriginals or Australia (and other groups) did not have slaves, any time that mankind congregates in large enough concentration, slavery does occur. Compare two different modern countries Germany and Libya. Post WWI, Germany was a defeated and destroyed country. Perhaps the same could be said of Libya post 2011. While under the Nazi government, the socialist government implemented slavery. Upon the destruction of the government, the society reverted back to a slave free state. While under the Gaddafi government slavery was illegal. Post-Gaddafi the society reverted to slavery. Hundreds are sold into slavery for as low as $400. Consider China. China has never successfully eliminated slavery. Today there is an estimated 2.9 million people trapped as slaves. Whether it is religious or political ideology, it has been found that the Protestantism led to the principles which created a permanent state of freedom from slavery.

On Mass Immigration

Today the unfettered immigration has appeared world wide. While some of it has to do with escape from oppression, much of it has to do with escape to economic advantage. Why are Western nations the destination that most people want to go to? I don't believe there is a massive push to move to China. There is a recognition that "Western" countries generally are safer and offer more opportunities. In fact when the roles are reversed, whites moving to non-western countries, they do so at their peril and can never be assured of assimilation. Consider the experience of expats in China today... unable to own property etc. I do have an issue with immigration especially in Canada. Immigration through regular routes is understandable. Irregular immigration has an expense not considered in discussions. Canada spends roughly $400 million per year for the care and maintenance of irregular immigrants. Instead of supporting a few tens of thousands in Canada that money is a diversion of funds which would significantly improve the lives of a million people from the originating countries.
