You Might Be Thalassophobic If...
Today I finally learned what the name for phobia of deep, open bodies of water is called:
Thalassophobia
To say that I panic in open water is an understatement. I once nearly drowned in the icy waters of the North Atlantic while skinny-dipping as a teenager, so maybe I can be forgiven for having a logical association with dying....but I don't know...I think it was always a thing for me.
I still absolutely lose it if anything at all touches my leg when swimming. With images of electric underwater plants grabbing me (the likes of those from the underwater level in TMNT for NES) i've been known to stop cold and start panic-shrieking "the weeds! the weeds!" while swimming with friends. It's not pretty.
Anyway, this dumb buzzfeed article physically affected me. I should give credit where credit is due (even though they themselves are only ripping off the "/r/thalassophobia" subreddit).
I guess you can visit it also to find out for yourself if you have Thalassophobia. Something tells me that you already know, though.
Have fun and stay safe in the water, kiddies!

Awesome post. Looking forward to your next one
