History of the Cod Monument- Geschichte des Kabeljau-Denkmals

In the city of Murmansk in the North-West of Russia in the central park there is a monument to cod.

The monument depicts cod 120 centimeters long and weighing 32 kilograms.
This is the average parameter cod caught in the Barents Sea.

Murmansk is a port city and therefore the fish theme is held in high esteem, and during the war the inhabitants of the city ate fish and it helped them escape from hunger.

Cod lies in a metal fishing net on a large stone.
Metal cod had a lot of adventures.
It was often broken and terrified by tourists.

Therefore, the fish was changed several times. The stone and fishing net remained unchanged.

Once the cod was even orange and made of plastic and artificial stone. People joked that this is a goldfish.

In 2020, cod was updated again. Now it has become bronze.

This is a very beautiful cod, it looks like a real cod in its appearance and size.

I do not know how long the cod will stand on a pedestal, someday tourists will put it into disrepair.
And it will be replaced with a new one.
