September Jobs in the Garden. Moving and Dividing Plants

in #gardening7 years ago

September is the month i tend to move or split plants for next year. Its not too cold and the plants are starting to slow down.

Today's jobs are to move a perennial Fuchsia and a Perennial Peony plus divide them to make 2 plants

First job is to cut back the foliage to a manageable size. This also helps with the need to water less.

Dig out each plant with a good size root-ball taking care not to cut too many roots.
Then look for a good place to divide each plant. Try and pull them apart rather than cutting. This helps with less damaged areas where desease can get in.

Then just replant in the new places or back in their original places and plant the divided parts in new places in the garden.

This is probably the cheapest way you'll add new plants to your garden

I also cut the lawns hopefully for the final time this year depending on the weather. Possible a last cut in October if we get any more warm days
