Scared of Coronavirus? Just drink bleach!

It seems too crazy to be true, but there are actually people out there so dedicated to conspiracy theories that they are actually convincing people to drink bleach or to take some tablets containing bleach because it kills all bacteria.

While bleach does actually kill almost all bacteria, it has this rather inconvenient side-effect of being corrosive and therefore will destroy a wide array of other things that you would probably rather still have, like all of your internal organs.

While most of this is obvious trolling, we all know that there is a sizable portion of the population that can be convinced to do almost anything if someone charismatic on the internet tells them to do so.

If you drink bleach, you can look forward to not only destroying the Coronavirus but lots of other wonderful things are going to happen like immediate burns in your mouth, throat, and stomach; nasua (i wonder why?), chest pain, and coma! One of the more convincing stories that is put out by QAnon isn't advocating for the consumption of Clorox, but instead is attempting to get their viewers to purchase some snake oil tablet called MMS, which is touted as a miracle cure for all manner of ailments, including the Coronavirus. Of course, none of the claims that these magic tablets make have been through any sort of rigorous clinical trials.

While not purely bleach, MMS contains an additive that when combined with an activator of any sort of citric acid produces chlorine dioxide, which is a type of bleach. In small doses it is relatively harmless but we all know how intelligent people are when it comes to medication... if i take 10x the amount I will be 10x as protected from Coronavirus!

I suppose the only good thing that could come out of this is that the people that would actually buy into this sort of thing are likely on the lower levels of the intelligence spectrum and they might be doing the overall gene pool a favor by following through with this.

I am reminded of a song by the Dead Milkmen when I was a kid and it has a line it is

"Bleach keeps you young as I've been told
Because no one who drinks it, lives to get old"
