Robots read better than humans
Artificial Intelligence, developed by Alibaba and Microsoft, defeats people in a reading test organized by Stanford University, transmits CNN.
"For the first time, a machine is overtaking people in a similar test," said in a statement from Chinese giant Alibaba.
The test was carried out by the Stanford University Artificial Intelligence Experts to check to what extent the machine's ability to read written texts reached their level.
Alibaba's software was tested first. Luo, head of the company's natural language team, calls the achievement "great honor," but says it could lead to the loss of multiple jobs as machines will be able to replace people.
The technology can be applied in a variety of activities, such as customer service, online answering medical inquiries from patients or making tours of museums and attractions, says Alibaba's statement.
The company has already tested technology in a real environment during the so-called Singles Day (Chinese Black Friday). The software responded to customer inquiries during the busiest trade day in the world.
By posting on Twitter, Pranay Raipur car, one of Stanford's scientists in charge of the test, called Alibaba's "A Great Start of 2018" for Artificial Intelligence.
The test is readable reading. The machine and the man read a passage from an article on Wikipedia, then answer questions related to the text.
The Alibaba model achieved 82.44 points, defeating its human rival and his score of 82.304 points during a January 11 test. A day later, Microsoft's artificial intelligence also defeated a man, recording a score of 82,650 points.
"These tests are useful measures of how far we have come to the journey called artificial intelligence," said Andrew Pickup, a Microsoft spokesman. "However, the real contribution of artificial intelligence stands out when it works in harmony with people," he adds.
Facebook, Tencent and Samsung also have artificial intelligence trials conducted at Stanford University.
Artificial Intelligence is already beginning to change the classical labor market in some industries. Automatic machines displace people from factories and autonomous vehicles have the potential to rearrange the transport industry.
Russian President Vladimir Putin predicted last September that the leader in the field of artificial intelligence "will become the ruler of the world." China is making great efforts to do just that.
Beijing said the country should be a leader in artificial intelligence by 2020. In July last year, Chinese authorities announced that they are working to build an artificial intelligence industry worth $ 150 billion over the next few years.
