Sweltering: Ode to a Brisbane Summers' day
If I wasn't trying to watch a dog that may be Houdini reincarnate
I would go to my bedroom and turn on the power hungry rage monster
that is our air conditioning unit - reminiscent of that hotel room in Delhi
all those years ago
catching an auto rickshaw from the airport
to an overpriced hotel and charged in US dollars
(probably more than the beggars sleeping in the narrow streets earn and spend in a year)
The air conditioner louder than the rickshaw motors grinding their way through the night
without lights - to save fuel said the driver.
Ahhhh. 'Cause I was wondering.
Different time. Different city. Same old heat.
Less pollution, thank the gods.
But still, the dogs' tongues hang from their mouths, dripping like melting coconut sorbet
in the sun
As they restlessly pace, then just fart and collapse, waiting for the coming peace of a cool night.
We can hope, anyways.
I love summer - when I'm at the beach.
I love it sweltering at home too, I guess,
But less
Especially when I'm sick.
At least I can dream of work
Where the aircon is noiseless
And I have Bill Gates' dodgy software to abuse
It would be oh so amusing if they hadn't had twenty fucking years to fix it
Bugs?
No
They're fucking monsters.

lol it can get really terrible i know the feeling
Yeah, we can hope. The picture painted here is vivid. I think of dogs farting :) , and i cant keep a straight face.
Cheers!
Hahaha, I'm from sweltering SA, so I feel your pain, which came through very well in this poem!!!
🙂
We really need some sort of cooling, smiley emoji!
We got relief...unfortunately it was in the form of destructive torrential rain.
(that doesn't look like the sun!)
What a clever and engaging write. I love the chapteresque style and the over-riding themes of sweltering and dogs day workaday. Psst ... did you ever think those bugs are there on purpose:)
I really do 🙃
LOL ... so I am not the only one. I have an old tower that I currently run just netflix and youtube on ... I am playing with fire and running Norton free. Wish me luck. On another front, I know you are super busy on here. But if you are looking for a read, keep my blog in my mind. I write poetry as well. I have a couple haiku currently up and short funny piece. Count me as a super keen newbie:) Maybe I will see you there. I am sure I will read more of your work. Much love and luck:)
this is interesting
thank you, your post
very bad.. so I feel your pain....@drwom
Beautiful write up @drwom

I wish I had some heat where I am now. It is below freezing where I am. Nice one though.
