Community - it's everything.
This is one of our small local parks
Don't know about you, but I love my community.
It's an intangible thing really, but so right when it's right. And when it's missing, life is a little bit less colourful. A little bit less happy.
I am really lucky to have landed in the best community I have lived in since I was at uni. But it takes a little time and effort. Actually, it takes a lot of time and effort.
I'm not someone who makes friends easily or quickly. Trust, real trust, comes slowly.
But when it comes, it stays. And things start to get good.
We live in the inner city of Brisbane. Close to the CBD - I ride to work most days (treadly).
We now know soooo many people around us, because the blocks are small, the houses close, and it's just about impossible to not say hello to people.
Everyone is friendly, and the good vibes get to everyone after a while - even the most stoic.
My wife and I consider selling up and moving to the country sometimes. Close to the beach... But every time, I think - how could I replicate what we have here? Money can't buy it.
Maybe we could start again, and over time find ourselves in a similarly great community.
Maybe.
But I'm not sure I want to risk it.
Actually, I'm pretty sure I don't.
