An exercise in mind boggling

Putting together two different scientific facts and pondering is more fun than it sounds

Who remembers the Monty Python song about the universe, from The Meaning of Life?

In the lyrics it notes that our solar system takes 200 million years to go around the milky way galaxy. Our galaxy.

Don't believe Monty Python? Well try NASA https://starchild.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/StarChild/questions/question18.html
They put the figure at 230 million. (Eric was only 30 million years out and I think that counts within the 'artistic licence' error margin).

So that got me thinking.

The last time our solar system was in the same place relative to the rest of the galaxy, our planet, planet earth, was in the early jurassic period of geological time.

Dinosaurs roamed the earth and were about to make their presence felt in a big way. http://scienceviews.com/dinosaurs/geologictime.html

I'll just let you ponder this for a moment while you check out a picture of a pterosaur.

Seriously. How cool is this?

Two different science facts put together and my brain gets kind of a warmy glowing does not compute buzz thing happening.

I wonder if this is literally what the term mind boggling was invented to describe.

If so, consider my mind boggled. And I hope yours is too.

Adding the 30 into the lyrics would've played merry hell with the rhythm!

Hahahaha - yep it sure would have 😊

interesting to know of their predictions through the song I would like you to visit on my blog and support me @drwom

I never remembered this song in The Meaning of Life, but has been a few years. Quite interesting to know of their predictions through the song. :)

It was pretty well researched 🙂

Interesting. For some reason I thought of our existence soon coming to an end. Just like the Jurassic time period. I wonder what will inhabit the earth in 230 million years from now? Possibly robots or dangerous bacteria ?

I'm going for clapped out robots for sure 🙃
