Turning late-season tomatoes into delicious sauce

in #garden7 months ago

These beautiful ripe tomatoes, from my garden and the local farmers market, are going into the pot to become sauce!

We had a pot of sauce!

It went through a strainer to remove skins and seeds (for the compost), leaving this:

We simmered it for a little while to remove excess water, and then poured the rest into a big clean jar.

This will be enjoyed in a couple weeks, when we need to make up another big batch of pasta sauce. When that runs out, we have 6 more jars full, and each of those have been pressure canned so they will last all Winter.

As for the garden itself, I mentioned in my Late Autumn Garden Update that I was putting in a bulb garden along the left side of the yard. Here's what it looked like the other day:

I have extended the bulb garden further along the side of the yard:

And today, started covering the main garden with fallen leaves:

Into the bulb garden I have planted daffodils, garlic, crocus, and snowdrops.

Yesterday, I completed the collection and storage of my heirloom organic tomato seeds. I have close to 10 varieties in my collection, some of which I have been growing for 12 or more seasons. Here are the ones I grew and put away this year:

It has been a successful first year here at my new garden in Northwestern BC, Canada.

Keep on growing!
