cloning experiments, mad-scientist style

DTube is being stupid again tonight, and my other video options aren't available, so it will be a photo post today. :)

Are those lighter-coloured swellings near the bottom going to be roots?

The stem is wider near the bottom (where it was cut from the main plant), and has a few whitish bumps.

It has been about a week since the clones were taken. I'm learning how to root clones without any "professional" advice or equipment, just trying to figure it out myself. The poor plants! But it's for a good cause.

Thanks, and see you soon!

I read a trick once that I use now in just regular houseplant cloning... When possible, make your cuts underwater so no air bubbles get in the stem. It really seems to reduce shock.

Its called an embolism when air gets stuck in the middle of the stem and it will stop the fluid from flowing in the stem. Also making the cut a a 45 degree angle will help grow more roots. Some people will also either cut a slit up the center of the stem or scrap off some of the outer layer of the stem at the bottom to have more of the cambium layer of the plant exposed which take a couple days longer to root but can end up helping with more roots in the long run.

Good to know - never heard the slit thing before!
