Explain why the future Internet of Things depends on Blockchain.

We know that internet has revolutionised the world via its diverse applications. Our prime focus for now is connectivity. Internet has succeed in converting this seemingly world of infinite dimensions into a small well defined peice of land where our peers sitting lakhs of kilometres away from us are able to communicate with us in real time. We can correlate it to "Internet of Humans ".

The Internet of Things (IoT) therefore refers to things having physical existence that are able to communicate with each other via internet or other modalities of communication. Therefore internet of things is analogous to internet of humans. In former humans interact with each other whereas in later physical objects interact with each other and exchange valuable data. It is worth mentioning that only internet is not the sole technology involved but IoT is combination of many technologies like computing devices, sensors, trained machines or artificial intelligence that interact to form a smart world.

IoT has diverse applications in our day ro day lives ranging from smart homes to therapeutic bands put on wrists to detect life threating conditions like heart attacks in humans. Although a fascinating concept but it has limitations too. IoT is still struggling to be transparent and secure system. Privacy problem and manipulation by polical authorities is also a concern. Scalability and storage of bulk of data generated are other problems linked to IoT.

Having developed basic understanding of "internet of things" and we also have a good understanding of blockchain, keeping in view the above limitations that I have mentioned, I think the convergence of blockchain and internet of things would make this concept more fascinating and comprehensive. Let's analyse some positive outcomes of this adoption.

We know that IoT is struggling with security issues . As IoT is widening its horizons in practical and day to day use cases, it collects bulk of information and that information is vulnerable to security breach during processing, storage etc. We know that blockchain is well known for its security for multiple reasons . So combination would do wonders.

Blockchain being a decentralised public ledger system, data is distributed across all nodes after proper verification and is publicly available. Moreover, data is non-editable and cannot be deleted. Therefore, convergence of IoT and Blockchain would evolve a more transparent and secure system.

Ability of blockchain to perform bulk transactions in real time would hasten transaction speed and scalability. Blockchain eliminates dependence on intermediaries and therefore is cost effective as well.

Filament is a Privately owned company based in US , founded in April 2012, by Allison Clift-Jennings, Jeremie Miller, and Sally Carson. This company is famous for developing hardware, software and providing services related to blockchain and IoT for enterprise as well as industrial IOT.

Filament through its strategic partnership with many other companies like Intel, JetBlue, Verizon etc, intends to converge lot of technologies together to form a comprehensive network of technologies that work harmoniously and push IoT and blockchain to next level.
