SATURDAY NIGHT PALSY
SATURDAY NIGHT PALSY is a forrn of radial neuropathy resulting from falling asleep with one's arm hanging over the arm rest of a chair, compressing the radial nerve.
Why saturday night??
Term derrived its name from its occurance in students studying till late night on saturday night after alcohol intoxication with arm hanging by side of chair reaulting in compression of radial nerve against arm rest of chair and hence injuring the radial nerve.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
Common symptoms of saturday night palsy or radial neuropathy may manifest in the form of
- Wrist drop.
*Numbness (back of the hand and wrist).
*Inability to voluntarily straighten the fingers. - Loss of wrist extension.
Management
I won't discuss treatment of radial neuropathy, bcoz that is a separate topic. In context of SNPi i would like to suggest few things.
(1) Avoid alcohol intake bcoz itz not like that it occurs only on saturdaay.It can occur anytime.
(2) Avoid studying after alcohol intake bcoz u r going to gain nothing out of sich study.It may only be harmful.
(3)Avoid studying on chairs when u feel sleepy.

Good advice. Some people can't avoid taking alcohol, so might as well advise them to reduce their alcohol intake. It's not only will cause Saturday Night Palsy but lots of other undesirable condition such as obesity and liver disease.
