Family : LAMIACEAE.
Vernacular Names : Hindi - Tulsi, English - Indian Basil / Holy Basil / Sacred Basil.
Telugu - Tulasi.
Botanical Description : Branched, aromatic herb, woody and hairy. Leaves are oblong or ovate , obtuse or acute, entire or suberrate. Flowers are very small, borne in terminal and axillary racemes. Fruits are subglobose or broadly ablong nutlets.
Properties : Rasa - Katu, Tikta.
Guna - Laghu, Ruksha.
Virya - Usna.
Vipaka - Katu.
It is Kapha - vatahara, Dipana, Krmighna etc.
Indication : Vishama jvara (fever), Hikka (hiccups), khas (cough), swas (astama), Visarog, krimi, shula(pains) etc.
Dosage : Fresh juice - 10 to 20ml, decoction - 30 to 40 ml, powder - 3 to 5gms.
