Learning from my Past Self
It's so easy to forget about a song you wrote, an idea you had, or a joke you came up with if you don't write it down. Listen to "Touch" by Drew
This song right here feels to me like a hidden gem that I stored away in my past. It's been years since I even thought about it - yet, clearly at the time it was very important to me.
Anyone who spends the money, time, and energy to record something knows what I mean: Songs are like pieces of a person - Fragments of our lives that encapsulate the feeling we're experiencing in the moment.
Recorded music is literally a way to hear your past self tell you something. I like to think my present self is constantly leaving clues for my future self, in the music I record. So if I struggle to find answers in my life, I often look back at my lyric books and old songs I have.
Through these remnants of the past, one can evaluate if they were happy then, what types of issues they were going through, and examine if the music/art they are currently creating, represents a more evolved version of themselves.
That's the goal right? to get better in every way? As a human, as a creator, as a citizen.

Yes!! I myself have never been able to write my own music, but to play someone else's, listen to it, examine someone's painting, read someone's book.. you're not just being told a story, but are experiencing life (if only a moment of it) through someone else's eyes.
