How 'Tay Met My Mother
There will be times when we are set to do one thing, and ends up with something else, something pleasantly different.
I was looking into attempting to recreate an image from a magazine while helping Raphael with his schoolwork. I ended up with a totally different piece, and would share a story with it too!
This is a story of how my Tatay met my Ima.
Started with a pencil drawing of the man and the lady.
It started in high school. Rudy and Noemi goes to the same school. They weren't classmates since Noemi was an achiever, and belonged to the top class in school. Rudy was an average teenager enjoying his best years.
Completed the pencil outline of the man and umbrella. 1st devidation: decided to have the man and lady share the umbrella.
Noemi was one of the school beauties. Add to it that she is one of the smartest in school too, she had been receiving admiration from many, Rudy included.
Completed the pencil outline of the man and the lady
There would be times when they would have small talks in the school hallway, but they stayed more of an acquaintance.
Traced the drawing using a pen
How did they fall inlove? They didn't. At first.
Erased the pencil residue and colored the image with crayons. Deviation 2: applied yellow on the umbrella
You see, Noemi's mom is very strict. Very, very, very strict. She imposes punishment to her female children should she learn that they have been dating or seeing some guy. The punishment is so severe I would rather not share in detail, but this entails public humiliation.
Aha moment and deviation 3: added an impression of the Manhattan skyline. This gives the image a better feel of one of my favorite tv shows of all time.
One day, Noemi was sent to the wet market to do some shopping. She happened to see Rudy there and were discussing school stuff.
Colored the spaces to have an impression of grass and sea
A neighbor saw her and teased her that her mom will be told. Noemi was so scared and started crying. She doesn't want to go home, ever.
The finished product- THE YELLOW UMBRELLA as inspired by How I Met Your Mother
And so Rudy asked if Noemi would elope with him.
And elope they did.
The skyline in focus.
Both Noemi and Rudy have joined our creator, after years of marriage and four children.
Deviation four: I wasn't looking into sharing their story, but the image inspired me.
Sometimes, we are set to do one thing and ends up doing something else entirely. The universe has its ways on having things, the way they should, happen.
