Capsule Film Review: Source Code (2011)
US Army Captain Stevens (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) suddenly becomes a teacher on Chicago train only to die in explosion; when he awakes in secret government laboratory a scientist (played by Vera Farmiga) explains that he was in advanced computer simulation that allowed living the last moments of someone's life. Stevens' mission is in those eight minutes is to somehow discover identity of a dangerous bomber. 2011 film directed by Duncan Jones represents a clever mix of time travel and virtual reality motives, with some Groundhog Day thrown for good mesaure. Good direction by Jones, known for his low budget film Moon and very good acting makes this film look very good until the viewers start noticing too much similarities with 2006 film Deja Vu. Like that film, a good and thought-provoking concept is compromised with conventional and not particularly convincing happy end.
