Capsule Film Review: Fighting (2009)
Channing Tatum, who became famous thanks to his dancing skills in Step Up, tries to display different talents in 2009 drama Fighting. He play young man who came to New York in pursuit of American Dream only to end on the streets trying to survive by selling cheap counterfeit goods. When he gets in a fight, he is noticed by a street hustler, played by Terrance Howard, who decides to become his manager and promote illegal bare-knuckles matches. Directed by Dito Montiel, director with dark "street" past which was supposed to give this film authenticity, Fighting actually drowns in clichés, at times so obvious that they insult viewers' intelligence. Good acting by Howard and few supporting members of the cast isn't enough to prevent utterly disappointing impression of this film.
