Steemit Hamburger Menu Gets A Makeover Too

in #steemit8 years ago

After pushing a new topbar to production, the team behind Condenser (the Steemit.com frontend for the Steem blockchain) worked a bit on the hamburger menu as well:

First of all, it seems there is a higher contrast now - which is good for visibility - and the order of entries has been changed.

There seem to be 3 logical areas on the menu: stuff to do on the blockchain, external exchanges and stuff to do outside of the blockchain (but still related to blockchain).

"Market" has been changed to "Currency Market" and "Vote for Witnesses" climbed a few spots. All in all, this area seems clearer and more helpful.

There is a new exchange promoted, GOPAX, which integrated STEEM a couple of weeks ago, alongside @blocktrades.

The last section, dedicated to "stuff to do outside Steemit - but related to Steemit" has at least 2 entries that I would see under the same domain as Steemit (maybe as subdomains, but still semantically integrated): it's about the chat and the app directory.

Let me explain.

Steemit INC made a great move a few months ago, when they bought / integrated steemconnect.com, as it thickened the layer of credibility surrounding third party authorization (a must if Steem blockchain wants to grow).

I think it will create a lot more buzz and visibility if they would integrate somehow the chat and the app directory. As far as I know, the chat is maintained now by a witness, @followbtcnews and the app directory was created by @roelandp and maintained by @transisto. All these guys are witnesses and they do a great job, but I truly believe the chat and the app directory need some validation form the "central" point. They may continue to be maintained / supervised by witnesses, just like @fabien is still offering advice when it comes to steemconnect.com, but they will be more "official".

I know the philosophy behind all this fragmentation, and, to a certain extent, I agree with it: "we, Steemit INC, we just make the brick and mortar, and it's up to creators to come up with wonderful apps".

But, well, chat and app directory are pretty much "brick and mortar".

Other than that, a great - and long time expected - UI / UX change.

Kudoz to the developers and contributors!

Wanna know when you're getting paid?

I know the feeling. That's why I created steem.supply, an easy to use and accurate tool for calculating your Steemit rewards

It's free to use, but if you think this is a useful addition, I'd appreciate your witness vote.

Thank you!

Psst: new to Steemit? Start Here

Do you have any idea why the SBD amount on a post can drop ? With no flags on that post ?

It can't be SBD price fluctuation.

I found this, but it makes no sense:

https://steemit.com/steemit-howto/@dr2073/why-sometimes-steem-reward-go-down

The answer to which the original poster is satisfied is this:

"The amount of reward you get per vote is based on the vesting Steem of the person voting, and the more they vote on different things within the same 24 hour period, the more the value of each vote gets diluted. So after voting on your post, if someone moves along and votes for a few other posts, the value of the vote they originally put on your post drops."

Which makes absolutely no sense, since the SBD amount is already given to a post it can't decrease, even if the upvoter totally depletes his/her account.

As another user put it in the same post:

"it’s the same as if I bought bread in one store with some magic money and then milk in another store, and the money in the baker’s cash register would disappear just because I bought milk somewhere else."

"if someone moves along and votes for a few other posts, the value of the vote they originally put on your post drops."

That's not true, there's nothing in the code supporting this claim.

The amount of SBD decreases because of the market price fluctuation. SBD had a dive of more than 20% lately, so if you had 10 SBD, now you may get 8 SBD, without any flags.

The same thing happens in the opposite direction, when SBD appreciates: your rewards increase.

I understand what you are saying, and probably that is how the system is set up, however from an economical / logical / mathematical point of view still does not make sense.

If somebody upvoted you 1 SBD, that is 1 SBD, it does not matter if it's worth changes from 5 USD to 2USD, it should still be 1 SBD...

It's like you have 1 Bitcoin in Poloniex and if the price drops 20% you have 0.8 Bitcoin, instead of the same 1 Bitcoin that instead of being 10k, now it's 8k...

It's really baffling...

Why would somebody implement such a system, and if it's an error, why it wasn't fixed until now...

It's not an error. If you look at a post metadata, as explained in this post, then you will see the actual value you get in SBD doesn't change. What changes, is the value in USD that gets calculated on the market price. You can say it's a UI / UX blunder, and a confusing way to display rewards (which I agree with) but it's not an error.

If you want to know more about how rewards are calculated, I highly recommend this post on steem.suuply.

I use Steem Supply all the time (nicely done BTW), and I read the metadata post when you originally posted it.

However, the "$" displayed next to the votes on each post is STU as you call it in the steem supply post

For example at the moment of my writing this post has $13.43 and 66 votes.

That is 13.43 STU.

What I noticed in the last few days, is that this amount will decrease, and this is not normal.

STU is basically still SBD, only when the rewards are being calculated you don't get all of it, just 75% that gets equally split in SBD and SP, but it's still taken out of a 100% SBD

USD value sure, it fluctuates like any crypto, but the SBD value should not... consequently the STU value should not...

The value present in an upvote is surely different from what you actually receive in your wallet and might be slightly different in steem supply.

What I am saying is that the STU value of a post is decreasing.

It should not, but it does...

For example this post was 2 days ago $1.30, now it's $0.93

This is observed and signaled by multiple users not just by me.

I love this competition among the front ends. It gives room for flexibility and creativity. We are now having better templates and aesthetics, which is very good for the blockchain.

Nice job to the developers.

Steemit INC made a great move a few months ago, when they bought / integrated steemconnect.com,

Where can I read 📖 more about it? I have never use steemconect because I always distrust third party software as they almost always may pose security risks

If it own by steemit.com, then I will be less paranoic about using it

That is my "WORKAHOLIC-WITNESS" doing what he knows best.

Keep doing the good work

hey @dragosroua thats a good info por those crazy as me hahah ... Steemit is getting better and better ...
congrats for http://steem.supply/ now i am using it

Cheers

I was caught a bit off track when I logged in today to see a new design in place on Steemit. It feels totally new and strange to me. This shows that the witnesses and the developers are working every day in developing the platform.

Steemit Hamburger Menu Gets A Makeover Too
I think this menu is best and beautiful Thanks for sharing the information behind this new menu keep it up

yeah,sir..
For a new things we use these templates very easily...
Developers are so helpful and creative...

I also like this competition among the front ends. It gives room for flexibility and creativity. We are now having better templates and aesthetics, which is very good for the blockchain.
thanks for sharing...
@upvoted #resteem

Wow, they added great things like TheSteemShop and @blocktrades!!

Next thing to do is to add DISCORD... It's not really steam related but most steemit communities are using it. Not sure how viable is that though, they already put its competitor Steem Chat.

I do have a question how come steemit decentralized exchange is not listed on coinmarketcap.com?
