Is mspsteem.com Legit?

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

I just stumbled upon a Steemit clone at the domain mspsteem.com. It has the exact look and feel of Steemit - I suspect it's a stock Condenser install.

What worries me is the Login / SignUp area, which opens a form in which you can post your WIF key.

The site looks very similar to Steemit, but the domain name was registered on November 1st last year, and the registrar identity is protected.

Any other information? Does anyone know more about this?

Later edit: it seems this is a Minnow Support Project initiative, so it's totally legit. The similarity with Steemit and the lack of any other information are worrying, though. Maybe a note in the front page saying something about that would be useful.

I just did a Google search for something I was looking for on Steemit and clicked the link without really paying too much attention to the URL. I was a bit surprised by the login request since I was already logged in, but with the cosmetic changes, I thought it was just one of those things. When I pasted the URL I had been looking for, I noticed it.

I don't like this kind of thing at all. There is no excuse for not informing the end user that it is MSP . . . unless they don't want people to know.

My private keys are my private keys, and they should be only valid on Steemit - that's where my money is - and since they aren't, I enforce that myself by not using them anywhere else and I don't like it one bit that someone has tricked me into using them unawares. I promise you, I won't let that happen again!

I’ve used it before it’s literally the same thing and your stuff I’d still kept private

Did you find it helpful

LOL

Of course it's legit. It's ran by Minnow Support Project (PAL) by @aggroed and it gives 5% beneficiary to MSP while supporting minnows.

Error 404: Scam not found.

Thanks for this. There is no info on the home page about that.

There should be probably something about that somewhere.

All good, it's only right to play it safe and be skeptical.

thanks for confirming was to do an article about avoiding scam sites

It's ran by the MSP as you already learned, but I absolutely agree that it should say somewhere on the site that it gives 5% to the MSP and a bit of info about what the site is and why it exists. But yeah, it appears to be totally legit.

If this is a scam, then it has to be dealt with, because it would be a threat to our community, we do what we need to protect steemit, however I hope im proved otherwise

Seems like it's not, but it could definitely benefit from some more transparency, lol :) It looks strange if you don't know what's going on.

Yes I had just joined steemit a while ago, and I am still confused and not convinced with mspsteem yet. Its asking my private key and I am very nervous about it. I had previous bad experiences before and I am very cautious. I am still not convinced yet ;) although its very tempting.

It certainly does look strange to me too

There are so many outside interactions that ties back to steemit for the benefit of end user but not a lot is known unless you find the creator or followers. I had no idea about busy.org and just found out about it last week. It gives you an upvote worth in weight of your total followers SP when you post through their site. I wonder if this minnow support project PAL site does something similar? I am actually a member on the discord chat but even there I did not pick up on the fact that they had a site. lol. My own ignorance.

Its run by MSP, but how different is it to the steemit?
UI wise seems to be the same.

I agree, STEEM apps souls make it obvious to the user that they are not the original Steemit and clearly say what % of each post they are keeping.

There is no good reason not to.

by the way was about to run an article about been careful with that site after i have heard about people been coned of their hard earned coins, saw it yesterday was surprise. now that is confirmed as legit , will look for another story

who confirmed it? Just a simple comment?
That was easy...

I trust that user, and the story checks.

OK... Plausible enough... :))
By the way.. La Mulți Ani!! Dragos&Raluca
I appreciate you both!!

La Multi Ani! Multumim, sa auzim de bine :)

Well its very wonderful article @dragosroua.
Glad to see your post. Keep it up
