How I Got To Top 1000 Steemit In Just 2 Months

There's a little bit of a clickbait in that title and I know it. It's not really a "how to" type of post, but more like an honest confession about what brought me here and how I ended up in the top 1000.

It all started 2 months ago, when @wadeptereson asked me by email to answer a "20 questions" interview. Having a popular blog (for which I worked my ass for more than 8 years, by the way) made me used to this type of thing. I get like 2-3 requests per month for various interviews or roundups.

So I answered the interview - as honestly as I could - and a few days later Wade gave me the link to it. I briefly looked it over - hunting typos, mostly - then I promoted in my social media circle. But something was off. I didn't know how "off" or what type of "off" so I came back. Then it hit me. It was this tiny image of a $ sign and a number near it. Money. This article made money.

Oh well, I said, just another Tsu clone. Then I saw a link about cryptocurrency. Then I read the white paper. Then I was hooked.

The first thing I did was to set up a reasonable writing goal in order to test the platform. I had no idea how much you can make on it, how many users really are (didn't buy that 100k number, I thought it was way too easy to create bots, so probably the number of bots was really high). So I decided to do a 30 days challenge, in which I wrote about business. Quite a large topic, I know, but also rich in themes.

Turns out my posts were catchy and, after about 10 days, I got noticed by @curie. Until then, my posts were making a few cents a day (if any). For the next 30 days, @curie voted me constantly and I am grateful for their support.

After the 30 days challenge I decided to get involved in the platform at a deeper level. So I installed a node and applied to be a witness. At this moment I'm in the 52nd place, waiting patiently.

And after that, my topics became richer and richer. I don't write only about business, I also have updates about my running routine (I'm preparing for a 48 hours race in February next year) and my witness activity.

And that's that :)

That's how I got to top 1000 Steemit users. It's like the famous Wordpress install: "Expecting something longer? Sorry to disappoint you."

Good for you man.. I've read a few of your posts and think you are exactly the kind of guy Steemit deserves - best of luck with the server management and your other initiatives . You are on the list of witnesses I vote for btw :)

Thanks for the kind words and for your witness support. Highly appreciated :)

I like the variety of formats you put out. What do you think about a profile dashboard? Okay, we tag our posts, but I'd prefer everyone be able to categorize their own stuff and present them in multiple columns or boxes.. instead of a linear blog roll that kinda obfuscates some of the more "important" posts

That sounds interesting. I assume when you talk about a "profile dashboard" you talk about how we present our own profile information, not the posts we write.

It's something that you see at the editor level, or a specific type of page, like Blog, Comments, etc?
