Face book is a social media giant but steemit enriches our pocket not like face book.
Does zuckerberg already have an account?
Steemit is already better than facebook in many aspects, no need for friend requests, developers who value you, getting paid for content and for finding content, has engaging interesting content, no tolerance for trolling, no ads, and a community who accepts you.
Facebook has your friends pictures and videos and occasionally some great statuses. But other than that, there is no comparison. How many people would actually say they like Zuckerberg? Now how about @ned and @dan? It already is better, we need to diversify past crypto enthusiasts and it has the potential to become great if people do not abuse it.
The thing is, we can build things on top of Steemit so in the future it may even become a Steembook with profiles, dating, a market place etc. all tied into one.
I mean we are really early in beta, we don't even have a damn follow page or a profile pic when we post or private messages. that's how early we are.
but look at all these people joining up and helping build on top of steem since its opensource. people volunteering to make a steem wallet, billboards to advertise, and steem shirts. this is eerily very similar to how users were when bitcoin started getting popular all kinds of people were popping all over the place. suddenly we saw billboards and shirts pop up over the place initially and thats where steem is right now. t shirts and billboards with more soon to come.
That's a staggering feat. Steem would have to really take off in emerging markets for that to happen.
Actually steem have much better potential in emerging markets that Facebook. Money even very little of it very important in emerging markets and Steem gives it in easy form to every one.
It would definitely be a while before that happened. I could see steem as a big contender to bigger platforms like reddit and facebook, but I'm sure that when it gets big enough it will either sell to one of the top competitors or become the top source for content in the world muahahahaha.
Whenever someone launches a website and thinks "I'll never sell it, even if it's making $1,000,000 a day!" there is still a thought in the back of their head saying "Well, if the price was right I'd sell :) "
It's too soon to tell if facebook will be taken over by steemit, but I'll be here for the ride and I will watch as this community grows into a powerhouse :D
Technically steem being blochain based belongs not to developers, but to us (to whales mostly of course) so to "purchase it" some big company just need to purchase lot's of steem driving price way up.
Though for it steem will need to grow at least to 10 000 000 users.
Time will tell
I feel like they're different things. Facebook got popular because all your real friends were there. Steemit is much more analogous to Reddit (obviously) or Digg from back in the day.
No point in competing if you're playing a different game.
In current stage it like Reddit yes, but obviously Facebook is future target as more complex network.
I would say less than a month. Once it catches, it will spread like wildfire.
I afraid such rapid grown even technically impossible - current hardware and code probably can't support it.
Steem doesn't need to beat facebook.
