One Picture And One Story Week #67: An Evening Unforgettable

What a pleasure it is to spend time in the waters of Alleppey, a combined boat cruise in the backwaters between Alleppey and Kumarakom. I have many fond memories of Backwater Alleppey, located on Vembanad Lake. So today listen to a traveler's story.

Kerala, the southernmost state of India and also known as the "Venice of the East," is famous for its picturesque backwaters. The most fascinating part of the trip here was the Alleppey boat cruise, which takes place in Vembanad Lake. you are seeing in this picture.

The experience of this cruise is a unique pleasure, where you get lost in the lap of nature and get a glimpse of the local life.

The cruise started around this point where we were staying in a houseboat.

The photo you are seeing is of the evening a day before the start of the cruise when we were sitting on the shore at this point. My coworker Khan, who was also a sales engineer with me, had brought some nice stuff for us to drink, and we were sitting right here at this spot.

Let me tell you, as soon as the boat started moving, we saw amazing views of greenery and blue water all around. Sitting on the boat, we could see the farms, small villages, and the life of the local people.

This experience is not only visual but also cultural, as you travel while listening to local music and stories. I did not understand the lyrics of the music, but it was very sweet, and as Khan knew all South Indian languages, he explained to me the meaning of the songs.

So I was telling you that during the cruise, we pass by various islands and waterways. In particular, there was a place where our guide told us that it was home to more than 140 species of birds.

Here we stopped for a while spending some time enjoying the natural beauty and continued moving forward. While on the boat, my co-passengers were enjoying seafood, but I was happy with my sandwiches.

I really enjoyed this cruise not only because of the natural beauty but also because as we went along, we got to see the lifestyle of the local people. They wave at you and then get busy with their daily chores, like fishing or working in the fields. That scene takes us to a different world and adds fun to the journey.

I took this picture when the sun sets and the view of this place becomes even more captivating. The rays of the sun fall on the water and create a magical feeling in the environment. This was the moment when I realized how beautiful life can be. And you know I always keep my camera ready because some moments become memorable in my life like these did that evening.

For me, the time spent in the backwaters of Alleppey was not just a trip but an experience that I will remember for a lifetime and one that I will go back to again and again. The peace, natural beauty, and local culture of this place have fascinated me.

Let me share a secret with you at this point. I also fell in love with someone that day, but that is an old story that I will tell some other time. I would say that I have seen thousands of tourist places in my life, but this was a different experience.
