Daily Psalms and Proverbs - Fri. July 28th

A good day to all reading this! Today's reading is Psalm 15:1-5 and Proverbs 8:10-13:

Psalm 15

{A Psalm of David.} LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?

He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.

He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.

In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.

He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.

In this psalm, David talks about what pleases and displeases the Lord. Those who do the things that please the Lord are rewarded with His presence, as Jesus told us in John 14:

"...If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me." (John 14:23-24)

"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." (John 14:3)

Proverbs 8:10-13

In these verses, God's wisdom is crying out to the people to follow what she says:

Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Here's a link to a pretty good article on some possible reasons for why Wisdom is portrayed as a woman in Proverbs.

What the KJV translates as a "witty invention" is the Hebrew word mezimmah, and in this case means something like "counsels," or "advice."

What this means is that God's wisdom is what man uses to make godly inventions.

To have wisdom, we must, as Jesus told us, "seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness":

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." (Matthew 6:19-21)

Thank you and God bless you!
