THE DIARY GAME | (20/09/2020)| DAY 45- "just when i thought it couldn't get any worse..."
Dear Diary...
Realising all my efforts were futile. I submitted and finally decided to pass time by listening to some music. I reached for my earbuds and placed them in my ear. Thirty minutes in and I slowly drifted, letting myself wander in my thoughts and imaginations. I waited patiently for the day to break, everywhere was awful quiet and it gave me the creeps.
Felt like days but the day began to break slowly. I got up, said my prayers and did the chores swiftly. It was very unusual for the house to be this quiet at 7:30am on a Sunday morning so I just accepted we weren't gonna make it to church this morning. My back still hurt a little so I sat on an arm chair in the parlour.
I was wrong after all. My mum and my brother felt the need to make it to church as we already missed service last Sunday. My dad on the other hand seemed to have overworked himself so he needed all the rest he could get. As usual we went about the preparations real quick but time on the other hand never always seem to be on our side every Sunday. No matter how early I wake on sunday mornings I always walk out the door in a hurry.
We were pretty late so breakfast was a luxury I couldn't afford this morning thanks to the time. Service starts by 10:00am and it was already 10:13am when we scurried out the door. It was pretty late owing to the fact the drive to church was no less than 10 minutes tops on a favourable day.
Ever heard the phrase "just when I thought it couldn't get any worse"?...well, yeah today made me fully understand that quote.
My brother hopped in the driver's seat as usual. I stayed at the back while my mom sat beside my brother. Five minutes into the drive and a sharp bend to a junction later and it felt like we just walked into a trap we couldn't steer away from.
It turns out my brother had an expired license so he wasn't supposed to be driving and as if the universe decided to play pranks on us. There were some policemen right in front of us. We couldn't go back, the only way was forward and as if that wasn't frightening enough. A policeman waved us aside "there goes our Sunday" I thought to myself. It was almost like he knew. He asked for some documents and all which were all complete and then noticing my mom was a lil fidgety he requested a driver license. Bam!! Aloha unlucky .
Almost like they decided to prey on some unlucky drivers. There were about four cars parked right in front of us also missing some documentation I suppose. We tried to beg our way out but the policeman proved adamant and threatened with the word "take to court". Oh boy, I wish I had just slept at home.
To cut the long story short. We decided to capitalize on the same trait we always criticize the Nigerian police force for. After much pleas and a parting fine of #5000 NGN (81.39 STEEM) we were allowed to go. It was already past 10:30 am so I was very surprised we actually continued the drive to Church.
Church....well, wasn't so great. I kept a cross face all through the service. I had to go apologise to the head of the Protocols for being so late. I proceeded to resume to my duty, Manning one of the entrance to the church. My back still hurt but I had to stand all through service.
Alas service was over, after all the Protocols met and concluded meetings I completely ignored everyone and went to the car to get some rest.
Few minutes later, everyone assembled and my mum drive us home this time. I also don't have a license as I have to go through driving school to get one. I hate driving school !
It was a quiet drive. We all retired to our respective rooms upon getting home at around 1:30pm. I lay on my bed for about thirty minutes before I went to cook some yam. We planned to eat pounded yam this afternoon so I got right into it. I would usually cook the yam while my brother does most of the pounding. I hate the easy cook "poundo yam". It doesn't taste anything like the locally made pounded yam, also being an indigene of Ekiti, Nigeria.. A state famous for it's love of pounded yams, we go through the hard way to get the desired taste.
Forgive my lack of pictures. I was able to take one of the meal before eating though
After eating I rested for a while then went ahead to continue my studies. The house was quiet as my siblings were asleep so it felt like the best time to gain some knowledge.
I spent this two hours on a economic text, it was more like reading a novel for me as it's my best course so I never have to worry about it. Hopefully before, thankfully now the education system is being given due attention.
My colleagues in some universities are set to resume, my sister resumes tomorrow and my school still has no news yet. Hopefully soon enough, given time it would suffice.
I just stopped to examine my post and it's unusually long, too long probably. I'm making this post with my brother's laptop so typing is a bit easier and faster for me. I would be getting my new laptop on or before October 31st, I couldn't find my desired PC brand yet so I have to wait for new shipments. My desired brand is the hp star wars edition pc in case you're curious.
Here's a pic of it
Also the diary game is gradually approaching the end so I'm tryna get more detailed these remaining posts :)
I spent the evening watching the news on Al jazeera. The only news station that makes watching news seem fun. I watched till I noticed it was on repeat, they do this sometimes. It's like they're on a loop.
I wasn't so onto dinner this night so instead I opted for some coffee instead.

Good experience shared! It conveyed myriads of hard lessons about life!
I note you are from a developing nation as attested by your escapades!
Yes my friend. I'm a Nigerian and well.. it's still a developing nation, good observation :)
Nice dairy. ❤
Nice diary @doppley It was quite a lengthy diary though 😂😂
The police will smile at such opportunity. They will grab it just like a monkey grabs banana.
The pounded yam and melon soup made a lot of sense. Its ideal for dinner.
Do have a great evening.
