Renewal

Where I live, the rains come in winter. If we are lucky, we might get wet before the weather gets too cold. Since the arid land has been parched and dry for most of the year, plants take the opportunity to burst to life. So as the old autumn leaves fade to brown and then to compost, the first grasses and weeds begin to stir. It looks much like a false spring (false because the cold of winter has not peaked yet).

These rains signal renewal. As the old life of fallen leaves fade, new green springs to life. Here are two of my favorite poems that describe this time well for me, though they were written for other times and places. In between are some of my photos of old life and new.

The first poem comes from the great poet Robert Frost and it is called “Nothing Gold Can Stay.”

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Nothing lives forever.

From the past, we transition to the future. I really like this selection called "Renewal" from Robert Longley. It is more eloquent than I can be, so I will end with it.

Look now towards the future
There’s nothing in the past
It is but the place of memories
And pain that shouldn’t last
The future is where you find it
Some bright and sunny day
Where peace and love is common
And man has learned a better way
You know all of the lessons
You’ve read all of the books
But still you live in contrast
With lives needing second looks
Take time for reflection
Let go the days of pain
And go in search of sunshine
That comes from cleansing rain

An interesting review, my friend, and very surprising to see this manifestation of the life of these plants and herbs. You're right, plant life always comes to life, when warming starts outside and there is a certain beauty in it, although it is very fragile right now. We now have snow 30 centimeters and therefore it is very interesting to watch your photos! Thank you @donkeypong

Brrr. Stay warm.

Both poems definitely lead to reflection, only nature, is restored alone, the old disappears and again the green grass blooms, the new flowers, I love the photos you show today, nature is life I hope that soon you have those plants receive the benefits of the rains.

Greetings friend!

You sound like a poet also.

@donkeypong, You are given best review of renewal something of nature. Most of times I prefer to see and talk about nature. Both poem selection nicely matched both old and new renewal life of nature.

So as the old autumn leaves fade to brown and then to compost, the first grasses and weeds begin to stir. It looks much like a false spring

Yep...I've seen those changeable situation. In older winter season's remove leaves & after be change color of brown. Finally was compost.
I believe we can compare both poems to our human's life. Mr. Robert Frost is great poet & nice words used for his poems.

Always glad to talk about nature. :)

I hope that it doesn't go too cold in your place @donkeypong
The poems indeed are beautiful they just make a picture in one's mind how nice the world still is.

Thanks. Poems can bring important meaning to our lives.

You are right ... water is life. Once the rain falls the grasses will flourish ... if the grasslands are fertile, herbivorous animals will come to the place to look for food. Life in the ecosystem begins immediately. If I see your photos, there are many leaves that fall on the ground, which means that the place is also overgrown with large, shady trees. Everything looks very natural. The wheel of life will continue to spin. Some grow and some die. Success for you.

Water is life. That's the truest statement in every climate I've visited.

Where I live, the rains come during the rainy season and we get cold even before the first drop of the rain.

Love the poem by Robert Frost. Nothing Gold can really stay lol

Great read, thumbs up Sir.

Anyway I prefer Robert Frost, His language is simpler and more profound, just like his "The road not taken"

'Road not taken' is one of the best poems ever.

Believe me.

Very cool post, I like the whole fake spring. Gives you some hope and a reminder that good things are to come, you just have to make it through the winter first. Always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Yes, I like it also. Anything green is welcome here.

I love Nothing Gold Can Stay. I first encountered it in a book I had to read for English class in school and still remember it to this day. It does deceive autumn pretty well 🙂

Best review about renewal. I really like winters. Mostly peoples like winters in pakistan. Water is our basic need. We can't live without water. Plants gives you fresh air. Natural beauty always atracts the peoples. I got up in the morning and going to walk. Morning walk very important in our life or best health. Thanks for sharing. @donkeypond.
