It’s Free Food Time!
As Sri Lankans we have poya day in each month and there are very special poya days on May, June and July. This is about the poya day on July and it is called ‘Esala Poya’. All Buddhist people in Sri Lanka celebrate these poya days and the Free Food festival are the most popular one and it is called as ‘Dansal’.
So, in 2022 I and my family members organized a Dansal in my home town and we decided to prepare Sri Lankan ‘parippu wade’ as you can see it is very tasty and rare to find in dansal, so most of the people are very much like them.
We prepared all the items which needed for the food preparing process, and ready for the dansal. The ingredients were chana dhal, onion, rock salt, green chilies, ginger and curry leaves.
The dhal was soaked in a cold water about 3-4 hours and then drained the soaked peas in a colander and grinded the well strained peas in a grinder little at a time. Then other ingredients mixed with the grinded dhal and shaped them by hand.
Then the prepared wade put in to the hot coconut oil bath until its color becomes gold. That is the final step of the preparation and then you can eat.
Firstly, we invited one of monk to open the dansala and then we distributed all foods for people who were travelling to celebrate poya day. Our colleagues, neighbours, and other people helped us so much and we distributed more than 1500 wade at that they. There were lots of good comment about our good job and we all were so happy.
