Minimalism for Steemers: Part 2 - Focused or Busy?

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

In Part One I talked about some of the attributes of minimalism which may help you to gain more time. Minimalism for Steemians: Part One - Gaining More Time.

Such as reducing consumption minimizing possessions, improving work/life balance and self-sufficiency.

Do you feel like you’re becoming busier and busier which often becomes like a status symbol?

We can see many people who are great producers but don’t seem to be creative in a meaningful sense. We feel like we are getting things done but not making enough progress.
I think it has a lot to do with getting and staying fully focused into what we want to create and achieve.

Why do people strive but rarely achieve?

Is it because we just don’t have enough time and don’t get through enough of our daily tasks?

Or is the secret more to do with staying focused. A large part of staying focused is learning to say ‘no’ at the right times. The problem with saying yes to everything means you’re saying no to other important things.

Are you getting the right things done at the right times?

You can gain self control and empower yourself by saying ‘no’.

It may be easy to say no to distractions, to additional tasks and to unwelcome visitors once but to consistently say ‘no’ with awareness and determination is another. The alternative is to say ‘yes' to everything that’s asked of us, allowing others to dictate our lives each day, increase our busyness and decrease meaningful productivity.

I find it effective to think about the person I want to become in any tough situation when a yes or no decision is needed. This comes down to knowing what your priorities and values are.

If you say yes to something of little important and urgency then you’re saying no to everything else of importance and urgency.

The idea is to free up some time so you can say ‘yes’ to the things that matter most to you.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. I hope these articles keep going. You have my full support. I was actually having a hard time saying no at the right moments, and it has slowed me down in numerous ways as it led me to a world of limited productivity. I now try to prioritize and only say yes to novel, enriching, or truly enjoyable experiences.

I can definitely keep these articles coming because I have the wonderful support of amazing people like you @mehdibca. Do your best to say 'no' when it really counts so it doesn't slow you down any more and limit your productivity. I wish you all the novel and enriching enjoyable experiences the world has to give because you deserve them.

Great ideas, thank you! Upvoted
