Keeping in touch with your former boss
My name is Hanine and in 2016, I challenged myself to get out of my comfort zone by completing a challenge every day for 365 days.
The following is a "snapshot" of one of these many challenges. This is a small piece of the final puzzle that was my personal transformation during this adventure.
Whether it is with people met on the road, former colleagues or lost friends, I have never been a champion to keep in touch.
It is not for nothing that I challenged myself two months ago to send messages to 3 different people a day. Challenge that I held for several weeks before the natural took over (with a little improvement anyway).
So when I received an invitation to an event organized by one of my former bosses, I decided to go against my nature and apologize that I could find myself answering present even if it had to be only in a gale.
The organizer was just one of the two young partners of the Startup where I started my career by holding my first real post for almost two years after graduation. We were less than a dozen (including trainees) and the average age was barely over thirty, but we wanted to revolutionize the world of office management software.
It was three years ago and my last meeting with all my former colleagues was the evening of the company's takeover. Since then, my former boss and I have been sending each other one or two messages every six months, trying to organize an outing. Four times, his efforts were in vain.
So I took the time to stop by the cocktail party organized to launch one of his new projects: a photo workshop in the center of Lille.
It was certainly an opportunity to get a little violent when I arrived alone in a room where I didn't know almost anyone. But above all, it was the opportunity to meet my two old bosses, to repeat our old jokes and meet new people. And to not think that I could have stayed at home.
