how does steemit work?

This is my first story and I try to figure out how steemit works. 

• First of all, what's their business model?
• how do they generate revenue?
• Who pays? Those who create a story or those who like a story? 

I'm aware that I could find all those information somewhere in the internet but just thought that I could try to get it in steemit itself ;)
