Drum grooving chops #4

in #drums6 years ago

I pride myself in being a very diverse musician and listener, but first and foremost, I'm a metal head! And always will be!

Since the age of 11 I've been intrigued by bands like Bullet For My Valentine, Breaking Benjamin, Bring Me The Horizon, Underoath, etc. The next thing for me was to go even heavier, I just couldn't get enough! I soon realized that there's a whole world of heavy music that I didn't know about.

Next I listened to more underground (well, they where then at least) metal, like August Burns Red, The Devil Wears Prada, Veil Of Maya. I was absolutely in love with the genre. I was amazed by how technically advanced these guys where, and this eventually pushed me to become a better drummer.

I still listen to all the above mentioned bands and so many more. Metal has given me a different perspective for music. The way that the aggressive emotions are portrayed gives a sense of not holding back and letting go of stress, which in a way feels rather therapeutic . Whenever I need to let off some steam, I either go lift weights, or PLAY METAL DRUMS!

Here's a metal lick. Love these slow beats with short double-bass bursts. It's super effective.

Howzit! I see you are getting a bit more active man!

South African music is coming to Steemit!

I am a writer myself but I have recently been blogging about a band and have been suggesting they get on Steemit. As well as another single musician not related to them.

Would be cool if there is a get together some time with a whole lot of live music! (One can dream)

Where are you from?

Hi! great to see more local musos on here! I live and play around the Helderberg area, where are you from?

Cape Town on the West Coast. That's not too far considering the rest of SA.
