How Many Jamaicans Use Cannabis?

in #weedcash4 years ago

Jamaica is well known for cannabis culture, and for tourists visiting who have medicinal cannabis licenses, it is easy to access cannabis when going on vacation to this destination.

Over the years, they've lessened restrictions on cannabis in Jamaica, with individuals allowed to allegedly possess up to 2 ounces without seeing a criminal record for it. But still, they insist that they are not looking to become like Colorado for cannabis tourism.

Jamaica became the first country in the Caribbean to decriminalize cannabis.

But they are still in the midst of establishing their market and exploring the opportunity to capitalize on this new space. However, although it might appear very green friendly, the state still spends time going after people who skirt the rules, trying to grow their own at home when they shouldn't be etc.

Because cannabis culture is so closely associated with Jamaica and Rastafarian culture, you might be surprised to discover that this country doesn't rank at the top for cannabis consumption. It comes in with the top 20 though. Surprisingly, other places like Iceland, New Zealand, USA, Nigeria, and Canada rank at the top. Iceland ranks at the top with roughly 18.3 percent using cannabis.

For Jamaica, their rate is sitting at roughly 7.21 percent, with other Caribbean regions like St. Lucia coming in at 8.87 percent, Barbados at 8.3 percent, the Bahamas at 5.54 percent.

There are some strains that are going to cost you a lot more than others. Loud Dream is said to be running for $800 an ounce, and prices obviously range from store to city, to country etc. In Vegas, one dispensary there sold an $11k cannabis-packed cigar that had 24 grams of weed in it.

The 5 most expensive cities for cannabis:

With these above listed cities you might be paying easily more than $15 per gram, up to more than $22 per gram.

The 5 cheapest global cities:

  • Quito, Ecuador
  • Bogota, Colombia
  • Asuncion, Paraguay
  • Jakarta, Indonesia
  • Panama City, Panama

For the cheaper options, you'll be seeing roughly $5-7 per gram, in Jamaica you might be paying $9 per gram or more, depending on the quality.

Aside from Iceland taking the cake with highest prevalence of consumption in previous lists, the ranking for which cities consume the most has put New York at the top previously. Followed by New York with the highest rate of consumption for a city, other regions included are Karachi, Pakistan, New Delhi, India, Los Angeles, USA, and Cairo, Egypt.

sounds like the fake legalization sweeping canada and usa right now.

As medicine it is very good, I use it under my socks to counteract ankle pain when I jog, it is relaxing, it creates like a menthol feeling on the skin that is satisfying

In Jamaica now they have all these high class dispensaries like this new one. A gram can cost up to $20 USD or more. https://www.jacana.life/.
They are getting real classy with it.

I never envy, this is a bad quality. But in this matter I envy the Rastoman of Jamaica, I am happy for them.

People came from around the world to visit Vancouver's free (black) market for cannabis. We have thousands of geneticists and growers and bakers and extractors, many of them active in cannabis here for generations. When I ran the 420 Farmers Market in downtown Vancouver for 2.5 years, selling and giving away cannabis to anyone 19 and up, we heard stories from cannabis tourists who had been everywhere. Vancouver was hands down the favourite, with most people who had been to Jamaica calling it a pathetic joke compared to Vancouver. Yes, it's a cultural experience, but the cannabis (and overall environment) in Vancouver seems to suit almost everybody a lot better, except maybe the Jamaicans themselves, which is irie :)

Legalization changed everything, though. The black market is thriving here, more so than ever before even, but the culture has gone underground. The 420 Farmers Market was violently raided and shut to make way for the legalized monopoly, and all lounges and dispensaries have been closed. We used to be cool, but we fell for the lie of legalization :(

Another informative post. Learned.

From what I see those are tourist prices. Jamaica has some very inexpensive ganja options.
