How Being Thankful Can Improve Your Life

in #mindset6 years ago

Start thinking of all the things you have right now in your life that you are thankful for. It could be your health, your family, your children, your job, your experiences that you have had and the fact that you have already made it this far when so many others are lost at young ages.

Just being alive itself is a blessing and something to be thankful for.

During a time of unexpected uncertainty it helps to bring up that approach to mindfulness once again, to look around at what we still do have or what we can access, and to be thankful for that rather than so focused on what we might have lost.

Just because we might have become accustomed to having certain things in our lives, doesn't mean that they are guarantees or that they are owed to us. They can be lost in an instant. So this is a great reason to be thankful for what you still have, all of the blessings that surround you.

Many people experience extreme loneliness and some don't have anyone in their lives to share their days with, their hopes or dreams, their occasional struggles. If you have someone in your life that you can open up to and trust to be there for you, that is something to be immensely grateful for. If you have family, loved ones, true friends, these are all great things to be thankful for.

If you can walk, think of the many who cannot, or those who cannot see, or hear. We can often simply take those things for granted.

Think of those in solitary confinement right now somewhere, who cannot experience the fresh air or the sunshine on their face. The many innocent people who have wrongfully been placed behind bars for some reason or another, or those who are separated right now from war who are unable to embrace their loved ones or have been faced with losing them altogether.

Are you able to walk to your bathroom and run a hot bath? That is something that millions of people cannot do. Be thankful for even that small luxury.

Some people might be facing empty grocery shelves or line-ups that take an hour or more for them just to buy some basic necessities, if this isn't your circumstance right now then be grateful for that because it can change in a moment. Because it is so fragile to sudden change, try to have understanding for those going through it, and if you can consider offering any help in any way that is possible.

It might not look like donating a million dollars. Quite often, doing something kind for another is going to be a very small and rather unnoticeable act. But to those individuals involved, it surely is anything but unnoticeable.

It could be making a phone call to someone you haven't talked to in awhile, or offering to help a relative or neighbor with their groceries or driving them to the store.

Giving to others can often be much more rewarding than repeatedly only seeking to give to yourself.

Life can get busy, so don't forget that you are literally surrounded by an endless list of reasons to be thankful, if only you will take the time to notice them.

Being thankful can help you to enjoy your life regardless of circumstances, and to be able to improve your mindset and bring peace and happiness to your life, and that to me is the ultimate success.
