At Home COVID-19 Test Kits Sold Out In Minutes

In the United States you can now find at-home test kits which enable you to privately test for the coronavirus in the comfort of your own home.

One company behind the introduction of those kits is the company Everlywell, which has been disrupting the healthcare industry by offering individuals the power to conduct a wide range of at-home tests that they'd usually need to go to the doctor for.

The kits come with swabs and once you collect the sample then that sample is eventually tested at labs that have been certified for COVID-19 testing under FDA authorization. Results would ideally be available within 48 hours.

For anyone that buys the kit and sends in the sample, the company has also admitted that they will be reporting positive cases to both federal and state reporting agencies, as required by mandate. Those who test positive will be connected with healthcare professionals to assist them going forward.

Another organization, the Seattle Coronavirus Assessment Network, is also going to be distributing kits in the Washington area. In California and elsewhere, various companies and organizations are looking to now start rolling out those at-home kits.

It's reported that customers will be able to order the test kits online for roughly $150-$200. Some have already sold out entirely.

In Santa Monica, one pediatrician had emailed the parents of his patients and offered them the chance to buy. For $250 they could have their own at-home test kit. He only got 100 kits however and they all quickly sold out. Now he is going to get hundreds more to try and address the demand.

Although there might be a high demand right now though for at-home test kits, some healthcare professionals have questioned the safety and accuracy of them.

Hi, thanks for the post! I included a link to it in my daily Science and technology digest, and you'll get a 10% share of that post's rewards.

FYI, I saw last night that the FDA sent C&D letters out to the businesses who were offering these tests, so I guess this might be on hold now. I don't remember where I saw it yesterday, but here's an article that I just found now - Carbon Health refunds customers after FDA shuts down at-home COVID-19 testing.

How fabulous, we need them in Australia too.

I smell a rat.
