KATECHON "Sanger Fra Auschwitz"
Just like the first two discs, such and "Sanger Fra Auschwitz" is a completely different fairy tale that we will have to face. So forget that Katechon, in his musical perversion, flogged you with death metal blasts, putting on the robes of a black priest. Here everything turned upside down. The music, though still heavy, slowed down. Blasts, if any, are no longer the leading force. The vocals, although there is a lot of aggression in them, are even more ominous, and the riffs are no longer as simple as they used to be, although they can also be cut into pieces. Someone will probably ask, what have you actually left here? I'll tell you that there is a lot. The force of gravity turned 180 degrees. Some may consider it to be a step backwards, others, on the contrary, that it is another step forward. Death metal came to the background to give way to cold black metal, which in this particular case fits well with the concept contained in "Sanger Fra Auschwitz". Controversial? Probably for some people yes, but the subject of camp cruelty and war cruelty seen from both sides of the conflict needs a suitable cliché, and this is black metal in this case. On the one hand, the Catechon loses from this, on the other hand, it gains. Mørkets Hjerte" or the opening "Fotspor" sound great here, but the death of metal, equally starving, evokes, for example, the introduction to "Ankomst" or the ending of "Davids Skjold". The multi-layered nature of this album makes you listen to it with curiosity, but on the other hand, the question arises as to why such a change? Couldn't it have been possible to play it more brutally and thus to show the subject more directly? With time and with subsequent auditions, the answers to this question will surely appear.
