Tamper-proof Document Revision Works in the Distributed Blockchain
Blockchain technology is no longer just a hype, but a trend. According to the Hype Cycle Report 2019 of the research and consulting company Gartner, it will reach its full potential in five to ten years and revolutionize the world of business.
The German Softwarebüro Krekeler recognized this early on – and made the technology available for document management systems (DMS). „Developed as a technical basis for the management of cryptocurrency, the blockchain technology can be used wherever information is transmitted“, Harald Krekeler says. He is the managing director and founder of Softwarebüro Krekeler and explains „Companies must keep important documents in a legally secure manner and maintain integrity and authenticity of these documents for the legally required retention period. It is precisely this challenge that can be overcome in document management with the help of the blockchain technology. For example, a contract that is concluded today remains on the user´s computer, but the descriptions and hash values of the document file are stored in a well-encrypted data block into the Documentchain that we have developed. At any later point in time, it can be proven beyond any doubt that this contract existed in exactly this version at the time of saving.“
A Blockchain Used in the Real World
In this way, the Documentchain is used to store revision information in a public blockchain, while the documents themselves remain on the applicant´s computer. In addition, the stored information is automatically provided with a time stamp and transaction data. At any later point in time, it can be proven beyond any doubt, that a document in a specific version existed when it was saved. „And that ist exactly what makes the blockchain in general and our Documentchain in particular so valuable the information cannot be changed afterwards,“ Krekeler emphasizes the great benefits of the new technology.
According to the Gartner study mentioned above, CIOs also recognize that the future belongs to blockchain 60 percent assume that their company will work with blockchain technology in the next three years. Documentchain is also becoming increasingly popular over the past few months, miners and operators of masternodes have increasingly been found. „It is particularly gratifying that documents are now regularly deposited into the Documentchain. And no longer just applicants of our document management solution use the Documentchain, but increasingly users of the wallet software DMS Core,“ Krekeler says happily.
Proof of Work and Masternodes
The project's own crypto currency DMS is used to pay document fees, but is also actively used as a general payment method. The coin is traded on Crex24 and Graviex.
Interested members of the crypto-community can use their CPU for mining and operate their own masterodes. For beginners there is a simple shared masternode service on
the Discord server.
