Achievement 2 @doctor23: Basic Security on Steemit
Retrieving my keys on #Steemit
I have actually retrieve all my keys and saved both offline and online. I actually retrieve my master password, which is of most importance and stored it hard copy in my safe, while keeping softcopy somewhere secure in my laptop. And backing up again as second back up in my external hard drives. I actually made all this, due to how important it could be as explained in the article from Achievement One
Functions and restrictions of various keys on #Steemit
In explanation of the different keys and their uses, i will explain them in few words:
The Posting key
It is used for everyday logins, to make comments, post messages, edit, vote, follow and mute other accounts.
The Active key
It is used when needed for funds transfers, power ups or downs, conversions, converting Steem Dollars, voting for witnesses, updating profile details and placing market orders.
The Owner key
It is only used out of necessity because one may use it to change any of the account’s keys, included the Owner key itself. I store it offline, and only used in case my account has been compromised.
The Memo key
It is used when you want to encrypt or decrypt the memos sent along with funds transfers.
The Master key
As entails in its name, "master" It is used to generate all the other keys, including the Owner key, and the only time i should require it is if i am recovering my account.
How i plan to keep my master password
I have been made to understand how important the master password is, because i can use it to retrieve all other passwords, it certainly means it should be my number one priority, and it is my number one priority. I actually printed a hard copy together with the soft copy and made a back up for it when ever needed.
Transfer of Steem Tokens to other accounts on #Steemit
In few steps, all that can be achieved
Not too quite easy though, all you need to do is click in to your wallet, then move down to the steem section, and select the drop down arrow arrow, take transfer, and input the account name you wish to transfer to, e.g as i use blaisebass1 in my screenshot. you can then conclude by putting the active key, since its the password required for that action.
How to Power Up Steem
It was really a big deal for me in the beginning. i faced difficulties until @blaisebass1 walked me through. I was wondering why i needed to transfer funds from my account name, to my account name again. Explaination thus:
To power up, you click on your wallet, take steem, then select power up, then log in with your password, which is the active key, and thats all. With screenshots below
The opposite of power up is power down, which is changing your steem power to steem
