Moscow Spring on Film: From -25°C to +25°C. Part I: March

When I go out, I always take at least one of my cameras with me. I use solely film cameras. Shooting on film demands a completely different approach, compared to shooting with digital camera. First of all, you have to be totally confident when pressing the shutter. Sure, you can take more than one picture of a single scene, but the thought of having only 36 or 24 frames per film (or 12 frames in case you're using a medium format camera) really shapes you up. And always remember about the ISO, otherwise nothing good will come out after the film will have been developed.

Well, enough of photographic wisdom. Here are shots of Moscow that I've taken during spring 2018, from March till May. Spring in Moscow is a crazy season — the change of temperature is a hell of a roller coster. This spring is no exception: it started with -25 °C, than it hit +15°C in April, with significant drops to +5°C twice. Finally, it is +20...25°C here. So, here are the pics of spring in Moscow.

Moscow by night, March 2018. The ship in the picture is one of the cruiser boats of Radisson Royal Cruise fleet. Radisson is the only cruise company with icebreakers, so the ships can sail all year around, whatever the temperature or the thickness of ice. Behind the ship are the Patriarshiy bridge and the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. Shot with Olympus Trip 35 camera and Kodak Color Plus 200 film.

March 2018. Moscow literally got buried under snow this year. It was even reported that we hit a new record of snow thickness. Above is a graffiti in one of Moscow yards in the center of the city. Shot with Olympus Trip 35 camera and Astrum Photo 100 film.
