He is considered the architect of the modern Indian nation-state: a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic Republic.
In his life, Jawaharlal Nehru received a cult status in India and was widely admired throughout the world for his idealism and wisdom. His birthday, November 14, is celebrated in India by Ball Divas ("Children's Day") in recognition of his lifelong passion and work for the well-being, education and development of children and youth. Children throughout India remember him as Chach Nehru (Uncle Nehru).
